গুনগুনে শহর, ঘুমে ভাঙা আকাশে হাত বাড়ানো,
চাতক পাখির মনে পুড়ে যাচ্ছিল খরা,
আজ অকালে বর্ষণ হয়েছে অঝোর বৃষ্টি।
জানালার গ্রাস ছুঁয়ে শীতল জলকণা নামে,
পুরানো স্মৃতি মনে আসে গোনা নেই হিসেব,
বকুল বনের সজল ব্যাকুলতা বাতাসে ভাসে,
ভিজে ঘাসে মুখ লুকিয়ে মাটি কথা বলে।
চৈত্রের এই অবাধ্য জল বুকে নামে,
ক্লান্ত দিনের বিবাদ থামে এক নিমেষে,
ছাদের কার্নিশ বেয়ে ঝরে রূপালী শব্দের মালা,
তপ্ত দিনের জ্বালা মুছে দিয়ে যায় সব।
মাটির সোঁধা গন্ধে হাজার দিনের টান ভাসে,
চৈত্রের এই বৃষ্টি রাতে প্রাণ জুড়ে গেল।

The Rain of a Chaitra Night
A city that is softly buzzing reaching out toward a sky that has woken up
The drought was burning the heart of the *Chatak* bird;
Today a strange heavy rain has fallen.
Cool drops of water fall touching the window bars,
Old memories come back—so many and so deep;
The wet desire of the *Bakul* grove comes with the wind,
It hides its face in the grass and the earth talks.
This wild Chaitra rain falls on the heart,
The fighting of a day stops in a moment;
A chain of shiny words flows from the edge of the roof,
Washing, away the burning heat of the day.
The smell of the earth brings a missing feeling from days ago;
This rainy Chaitra night gives comfort to the soul.
