ভোরের আজান যখন আবছা হয়ে আসে,
শহরটা তখন এক বিশাল সাদা ক্যানভাস;
চেনা ল্যাম্পপোস্টগুলো দাঁড়িয়ে থাকে নিঃসঙ্গ,
যেন পথ হারিয়ে ফেলা কোনো রূপকথার অবয়ব।
কংক্রিটের জঙ্গল আজ বড়ই শান্ত,
ব্যস্ত মোড়ের সেই ট্রাফিক সিগন্যাল—
কুয়াশার গ্রাসে তার তেজ হারিয়েছে আজ;
হলদে আলোটা যেন জ্বলে থাকা এক দীর্ঘশ্বাস।
ফুটপাতে শুয়ে থাকা লোকটার ছেঁড়া কাঁথা,
আর চায়ের দোকানের কেটলির ধোঁয়া—
মিশে যায় একাকার ধূসর আস্তরণে;
এখানে চেনা মুখগুলোও বড় অচেনা, বড় ছায়া-ছায়া।
পিচঢালা পথে চাকা ঘোরে মন্থর গতিতে,
অদৃশ্য গন্তব্যে ছুটে চলা কিছু যান্ত্রিক প্রাণ;
শহরটা হারায় না, শুধু লুকোচুরি খেলে—
কুয়াশার আড়ালে জমা থাকে হাজারো না-বলা অভিমান।
রোদ উঠলেই আবার সব হবে ঝকঝকে,
শুরু হবে সেই চেনা কোলাহল আর রেষারেষি;
তবু এই কিছুক্ষণ, শহরটা বড় বেশি মায়াবী—
অস্পষ্টতার চাদরে ঢাকা এক বাস্তব রূপসী।

The Fog-Draped City
As the dawn call to prayer fades into the mist,
The city turns into a vast, white canvas;
Familiar lampposts stand in quiet solitude,
Like mythical figures who have lost their way.
The concrete jungle is strangely calm today,
The traffic signals at the busy intersections—
Have lost their glow within the fog’s embrace;
The amber light flickers like a lingering sigh.
The torn quilt of a man sleeping on the pavement,
And the steam rising from the roadside tea stall—
They all merge into the thick, grey layers;
Here, even familiar faces feel like strangers,
like shifting shadows.
Tires roll slowly over the pitch-black roads,
Mechanical souls rushing toward invisible destinations;
The city doesn’t disappear, it only plays hide-and-seek—
A thousand untold heartaches stay hidden behind the veil.
When the sun rises, everything will sparkle again,
The usual chaos and the rat race will return;
Yet for these few moments, the city is hauntingly beautiful—
A reality dressed in the magic of the mist.
